Our Sister's Place has established the Courage Award. This honor will be given in recognition to those individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to assisting in the effort to end domestic violence through a variety of methods including the sharing of personal experience, education, legislative lobbying and community activism and outreach.
Community advocate and dedicated volunteer Charles Capers has been recognized with the Courage Award for 2025, the highest honor presented by Our Sister’s Place, Inc. This award celebrates individuals committed to ending domestic violence through community activism and outreach. Capers has been a steadfast supporter of Our Sister’s Place, and was previously recognized as Volunteer of the Month in September 2024.
Beyond his contributions to Our Sister’s Place, Capers has a long history of service, including his role as a founding member of Mother’s Cupboard food pantry. He has also volunteered with the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, Compass Community Center, Lake Worth Playhouse, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, The Smart Ride, and numerous other community-based organizations across Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Community Activist Lisa Perez was honored September 30th, 2023 with the Courage Award presented by Our Sister’s Place, Inc. The award recognizes individuals for their commitment to end domestic violence. Ms. Perez was the keynote speaker for OSP’s Domestic Violence Awareness Luncheon. The Volunteer of the Month Award has been created to recognize members of the volunteer corps at Our Sister's Place. These individuals donate their time and expertise in a variety of settings and crafts to benefit OSP's efforts to aid individuals impacted by domestic violence.
